As members of the Boston arts community, we stand in solidarity with the workers of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
The Museum has expressed a commitment towards working to right the injustices caused by its own long history of elitism, racism, and colonialism. We know that to honor this commitment holistically, the Museum must create an internal culture that supports and empowers workers and supports their right to unionize.
Museums should be a resource for artists and for all members of the community, but legacies of elitism and gatekeeping can hold museums back from reaching their goals. The growing movement of cultural workers having a unionized voice can only increase democracy and equality in these institutions.
